Grace, Part 2

(Read Grace, Part 1)

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.”  Romans 8:2

How marvelous is the grace that is ushered into us by Christ!  It comes with a whole new life!  A life of freedom from the old creation, the sin nature, the law, and even freedom from death itself!  Who could ask for anything more?  (Not even Toyota.)  Christ has set us free from… everything.  His life is now your life.  He lives inside of you.  The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus is at work inside you.  And as we walk in the Life, we gradually (sometimes more, sometimes less gradually) begin to live out the freedom that is in Christ Jesus.

And what freedom is that?  How free are we?

I suppose there is no cut and dry answer.  At least not any that I can think of that does any sort of justice to the reality of this freedom through Christ’s life in us.  In Christ, we are free to love God without fear of condemnation.  In Christ, we are free from guilt, which means we can actually love ourselves.  But not only that, in Christ we are free to love others with our whole hearts.  In Christ, we are free to give our cares and worry to Him.

Most of all, we are free to have Christ Himself dwell inside of us and live our lives entwined with His, and His life in His church.

I can’t imagine that I have earned or deserve all of this, but then, that’s what makes it grace – a gift I didn’t deserve.

Wonderful Grace of Jesus, by Haldor Lillenas

Wonderful grace of Jesus, greater than all my sin;
How shall my tongue describe it, where shall its praise begin?
Taking away my burden, setting my spirit free,
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me!

Wonderful grace of Jesus, reaching to all the lost,
By it I have been pardoned, saved to the uttermost;
Chains have been torn asunder, giving me liberty,
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me!

Wonderful grace of Jesus, reaching the most defiled,
By its transforming power, making him God’s dear child.
Purchasing peace and heaven for all eternity;
And the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me!

REFRAIN: Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus,
Deeper than the mighty rolling sea;
Higher than the mountain, sparkling like a fountain,
All-sufficient grace for even me;
Broader than the scope of my transgressions,
Greater far than all my sin and shame;
O magnify the precious name of Jesus, praise His name!
